Municipal Attorney

Position Overview
The Municipal Attorney will provide legal counsel and representation for the municipality, focusing on zoning, land use, and public policy issues. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of municipal law and the ability to navigate complex legal challenges faced by local government. This is a transactional role/

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice to municipal officials and departments
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and legal documents
  • Represent the municipality in litigation and administrative hearings
  • Conduct legal research to support municipal policies and regulations
  • Advise on zoning, land use, and environmental law matters
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Engage in negotiations and mediation to resolve disputes
  • Prepare and present legal opinions on various municipal issues
  • Assist in the development of municipal policies and procedures

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
  • Active license to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in municipal law or related fields
  • Strong knowledge of zoning, land use, and public policy
  • Excellent legal research and writing skills
  • Proven experience in litigation and government relations
  • Ability to negotiate and mediate effectively
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance and administrative law
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Commitment to public service and community engagement
